Other/general description: A man of appearances, Theo is always impeccable. He dresses in tailored robes of the finest cut and carries himself with well thought through grace. His height adds to his stature and he does not hesitate to use his looks to get what he wants.

Personality

Personality: Theo is a manipulative man with few morals regarding people outside his limited scope of interest. He doesn’t mind lying and will use people for his own purposes if it suits him. To those he uses he usually seems nice and kind, polite and friendly, at least as long as he needs them, or has no reason to move against them. If you’re his enemy he can be ruthless and has no mercy. He is a loner, but spends a lot of time around people because it’s necessary to get ahead, especially in politics.

He is a collector, and collects fine wines, fine art and most of all – people's dirty little secrets. He keeps those secrets in magically concealed vault and the key never leaves his body. He will use the secrets to nudge, bribe or blackmail people into giving him what he wants if necessary, but prefers to use other methods when available. Blackmail can only be used once after all, and after that you’ve made yourself an enemy. Better to be a “friend” and be able to use someone many times.

Other traits of his personality include being punctual, a hard worker, a collector and a reader. If you anger him he holds a grudge until he’s had his revenge. If it takes days, months or years doesn’t matter to him.

He rarely lets himself get attached to anyone, but he does love his family dearly. Sometimes a bit too harsh with his son, he demands the best from him as a form of love, wanting his son to have everything he has in life. He sometimes fails to see that he demands too much. With his daughter he allows more freedom, partly because the demands on her as a woman and not the heir are lower but also because he’s absolutely besotted in her and never can stand to tell her no (just as he can never see any wrong doing on her part). She, like her mother, has him completely wrapped around her finger.

As he has few friends, those he has mean more to him. He doesn’t do casual when it comes to relationships. You’re either his friend or expendable. If you’re his friend he will stick up for you, as long as it doesn’t hurt him or his family.

Special abilities/strengths/flaws: Theo has a particular interest in ancient spells. Particularly ancient dark spells that has been forgotten for centuries. To learn more he’s learnt both ancient Greece and Latin fluently as well as several other languages in order to read ancient texts on the subject. He’s also quite skilled at transfiguration and a competent potions brewer. His weaknesses lie in controlling his temper, and of not letting his vindictiveness get the better of him.

Relevant backstory: Theodore's parents’ marriage was arranged, his mother being 35 years younger than his father. It was never a happy marriage, and never led to more than one child as Theo’s mother died when he was very young.

His father took a great interest in Theo’s education, but in all other things Theo was raised by the nannies his father hired - and fired – or killed - once he got tired of them. This meant that Theo in large, learnt to get by on his own. He grew independent, and became something of a loner, confident in his abilities and his skills, but not attaching himself emotionally to those around him as he could never rely on them being around for long. He had friends, as his father made sure he socialised with those of his class and standing, but even at Hogwarts, he never saw the point of seeking too much company and never felt alone by himself.

Theo always had a problematic relationship with his father - being greatly influenced by the man but resenting him all the same. The fact that Nicholas got arrested and thereby essentially abandoned Theo when he was only a teenager did not make matters better, and Theo never forgave him. Suddenly forced into adulthood, Theo had to learn quickly, or risk seeing the family business dwindle and fall. In the jailbreak of 97, Nicholas, being old and weak since the battle at the DoM, was seen as useless, and left behind. Theo wasn’t sad not to see him return and when his father finally was released – too ill to be any risk and the Ministry needing the space after the second war was over – Theo did nothing to make the final months of his father’s life easier. The man was left to die in a guest bedroom in the house, denied even the simplest pain potion. When he drew his last pained breath, Theo watched, refusing both help or comfort or forgiveness. Once his father was dead he arranged the burial that befitted a Nott, he’d had his revenge and could now let things be.

In sixth year he started to flirt with Pansy as Draco paid her less and less attention. In seventh year the two started having sex. In early March 1999 Pansy became pregnant, something they were lucky enough to discover quickly. In late April they married in a “surprise wedding” (that had been planned for the longest time, naturally, how else to you pull off perfection?). In December Stephen was born. Early. Honeymoon baby. Naturally. Gossip of course ran high, but Theo and Pansy never admitted a thing. With time gossipers found more interesting topics of discussion. Anything you'd like to add:

* There was a time where Theo was tempted to enter into research, joining the DoM and researching ancient magic. However, he knew that the head of the Nott family needed to go into politics and so he did what was expected of him. Not until he could join DoM at a high enough level to know he’d become head of the department with hard work – and thereby become a member of the Wizengamot by default – did he indulge himself. It’s not the research he wanted, but it’s close enough, and he can’t deny that he enjoys the power that comes with the position. (As well as the solitude. As the head of the DoM he is not required to talk to many people – as in fact most of what his department does is secret)

* He is fairly kinky sexually, being a dominant man who likes to play. He keeps his toys securely locked up, and that’s another key he always carries with him (in a necklace, transfigured into a silver rune). Save for his wife, no one but his previous sexual partners would know this.
